Giorgio Estephan scored three times, while goaltender Stuart Skinner made 33 saves as the Lethbridge Hurricanes upended the Kootenay ICE 8-1 Wednesday at Enmax Centre.
Colton Kroeker scored the lone ICE goal in his return to Lethbridge after a mid-season trade.
The Hurricanes struck four times in the opening period, going ahead 5:45 into the game when Estephan fired home a snapshot from the right wing on a Lethbridge power-play.
Forwards Alec Baer and Jordy Bellerive extended the lead to 3-0 midway through the frame with tallies 34 seconds apart before rookie rearguard Calen Addison rounded out the first period scoring with a well-placed snapshot from the right circle at 15:37.
Estephan added a pair of points to his evening in the second period. First, at 10:22, the Buffalo Sabres prospect one-timed a slapshot past ICE goaltender Jakob Walter from the slot.
Estephan played deliverer five minutes later, juking through traffic in the slot before handing off the puck to linemate Egor Babenko for a tap-in at Walter’s back post.
Kootenay got on the board five minutes into the third. Defenseman Troy Murray’s shot from the left point was kicked out to Kroeker, who from the low slot wired a rebound in off the crossbar.
Ryan Vandervlis added a short-handed marker for Lethbridge with 5:38 to play. Estephan then finished his hat trick, tapping in a rebound from the seat of his pants in the ICE crease at 16:06.
Walter made 37 saves in goal for Kootenay.
ICE forward Vince Loschiavo registered an assist, extending his point streak to five games.
