GAME DAY | ICE visit red hot Kamloops Blazers

Kamloops, B.C. – The Kootenay ICE (12-15-1-0) continue their season long five-game road trip with a date against the Kamloops Blazers (13-14-0-0) Sunday afternoon.

Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. Pacific Time.

This is the first and only meeting of the season between the two teams.

The Blazers are finishing up a stretch of three games in three days – they hosted Everett on Friday and visited Seattle on Saturday. The Blazers are also wrapping up a stretch of eight of nine games on home ice. After Sunday’s game, the Blazers head out onto the road for seven-straight and don’t play at the Sandman Centre until December 29.

The Blazers started the 2017-18 season 0-9 but since have gone 13-5. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games.

The ICE are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Kelowna Rockets Saturday night. The ICE found themselves trailing 3-0 mid-way through the third period before 1998-born defenceman Martin Bodak potted the first goal of his WHL career. 1997-born forward Alec Baer would add the other ICE goal in the last minute of the game.

The ICE are being led in points by 1997-born forward Colton Kroeker, who has 24 (7G, 17A) so far this season. Baer is second with 23 (12G, 11A) and 2001-born forward Peyton Krebs is third with 22 (5G, 17A).

Washington Capitals 2016 draft pick and 1998-born forward Garrett Pilon leads the Blazers in points with 35 (13G, 22A). 1997-born forwards Nick Chyzowski and Joe Gatenby are second on the team with 24 points.

The ICE and Blazers only played once during the 2016-17 season – an 8-1 victory for the Blazers at Western Financial Place. The last time the ICE played at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops was on December 1, 2015 – the Blazers picked up a 5-1 victory.

The ICE enter Sunday’s contest with 25 points, good for third in the Central Division and sixth in the Eastern Conference. The Blazers have 26 points, which has them in fourth in the B.C. Division and ninth in the Western Conference.

The ICE continue their five-game road trip on Tuesday when they face the Prince George Cougars.
