ICE CHIPS: The KOOTENAY ICE finished the EASTERN CONFERENCE QUARTER FINAL presented by KAL-TIRE and HUSKY/MOHAWK, against the EDMONTON OIL KINGS with a 1-4-0 record (0-2-0 at home, 1-2-0 on the road, 1-0 in overtime)…KOOTENAY finished the 2012-2013 regular season with a 35-35-2-0 record (21-14-1-0 at home, 14-21-1-0 on the road, 3-2 in overtime, 4-0 in shootouts) and in eighthplace in the EASTERN CONFERENCE…The ICE finished the 2012-2013 regular season with a .500 or better record for the 14th consecutive season, which is the longest active streak in the WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE.
PLAYOFF EXPERIENCE: The ICE have a career playoff record of 86-68 (46-29 at home, 40-39 on the road, 23-11 in overtime)…JOEY LEACH (37), JAGGER DIRK (28) and BROCK MONTGOMERY (23) led the ICE in games played in the playoffs…LUKE PHILP recorded his first WHL playoff goal (overtime winner) on March 24 against EDMONTON…JAKUB PROCHAZKA recorded his first WHL playoff goal against the OIL KINGS on March 29.
DID YOU KNOW: RYAN MCGILL has been nominated as the EASTERN CONFERENCE nominee for the DUNC MCCALLUM MEMORIAL TROPHY for WHL COACH OF THE YEAR…SAM REINHART has been named to the WHL EASTERN CONFERENCE SECOND ALL-STAR TEAM…KOOTENAY finished the regular season second in the WHL in winning percentage (.889) in overtime and shootout games…JOEY LEACH, who played in 274 career regular season games, is the all-time franchise leader for career plus/minus with a plus 96…BROCK MONTGOMERY, who played in 244 career regular season games, finished the season tied for second in the WHL in power play goals with 18…LUKE PHILP (20-25-45) finished the season tied for seventh in the League for rookie scoring with 45 points…MACKENZIE SKAPSKI, who finished the regular season tied for first in the WHL for shutouts with seven, stopped 24 out of 25 shootout attempts this year…KOOTENAY tied a team record for consecutive wins at home with 12 (December 31 – February 23 – previous record set during the 2006-2007 season) and won 14 of their last 16 home games.
ONE YEAR AGO: After Game Three of the 2011-2012 Quarter Final against EDMONTON the ICE were 0-3 and after Game Four were 0-4.
