POST GAME REPORT | Hitmen top ICE 4-1 in pre-season opener

Red Deer, AB – The Kootenay ICE kicked off its seven-game pre-season schedule with a 4-1 loss to the Calgary Hitmen on Friday.

Prospect Connor McClennon opened the scoring with 31 seconds remaining in the second period to give the ICE a 1-0 lead, however, the Hitmen would respond with four unanswered goals in the final 13 minutes to collect the victory.

Goaltender Jesse Makaj started between the pipes and stopped all 20 shots he faced in 30 minutes of work. He would be replaced by Will Gurski, who stopped 15-of-19 shots that came his way.

The ICE play their second game of the pre-season on Saturday at Enmax Centrium in Red Deer. It is a 3 p.m. MT puck drop between the ICE and the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The game won’t be broadcast or streamed online, however, updates will be made throughout the game on Kootenay ICE social media feeds (Facebook, Twitter).
