Sean Montgomery scored twice, while Ian Scott made 22 saves to earn his second career shutout as the Prince Albert Raiders blanked the Kootenay ICE 6-0 Friday at Art Hauser Centre.
The Raiders took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission on a pair of power-play markers, going ahead 1-0 when captain Tim Vanstone snuck a backhand shot just inside the left post on a rush down the left wing. Montgomery extended the Prince Albert lead with just under three minutes remaining in the frame after he was allowed to cut to the low slot from the side of ICE goaltender Payton Lee’s net, zipping a low shot over the Kootenay netminder’s left pad.
The Raiders added two more tallies in period two, first on a one-timer from veteran Cavin Leth from the slot. Montgomery added a second goal on a rush when he fired a low shot that snuck through an ICE defenseman’s legs before beating Lee.
16 year-old Cole Fonstad and 17 year-old Adam Kadlec rounded out the scoring for the hosts in period three. Fonstad’s goal was rifled to the top corner on a rush down the right wing while Kadlec converted on a rebound at Lee’s left post.
Prince Albert outshot the ICE 39-22.
Lee made 33 saves Friday.
