ICE select defenceman Valtteri Kakkonen in CHL Import Draft

Cranbrook, B.C. – The Kootenay ICE Hockey Club announced on Thursday it has selected defenceman Valtteri Kakkonen 11th overall in the first round of the 2018 CHL Import Draft.

The six-foot, 168-pound Finland native spent the 2017-18 season with JYP U20 of Jr. A SM-liiga. In 47 regular season games, the 2000-born defenceman potted five goals and added seven assists for 12 points.

During the 2016-17 campaign, Kakkonen suited up for the Finland U17 team.

“We look forward to welcoming Valtteri to our organization and the community,” said Matt Cockell, President and General Manager.

This is the only selection the ICE made in the 2018 CHL Import Draft.
