Lee Named WHL Goaltender of the Week

Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Kootenay ICE goaltender Payton Lee has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending October 30, 2016.

Lee, a 20-year-old product of Cranbrook, BC, went 2-0-0-0 this past week, including a 32-save performance in a 2-1 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday, October 28, in which he earned second-star honours. Lee closed the weekend with a second consecutive victory over the Wheat Kings, making 35 saves in a 6-2 decision on Sunday, October 30.

Over the two contests, Lee notched a 1.50 goals-against average and .957 save percentage.

The 6-foot-1, 188-pound Lee is an NHL free agent and sits third among WHL goaltenders with a .935 SP alongside a record of 3-1-3-1 this season. Lee has been the goaltender of record for every point in the standings the ICE has accumulated in 2016-17.

Lee, who was a second round pick (28th) of the Vancouver Giants at the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft, is in his fifth WHL campaign and first with his hometown ICE, having compiled a record of 65-87-10-5, 3.34 GAA, .888 SP and six shutouts in 178 career WHL regular season appearances.
