PRE-GAME REPORT presented by St. Eugene | ICE, Oil Kings meet up for second time in a week

Cranbrook, B.C. – The Kootenay ICE (4-5-2-1) continue its three-game homestand by hosting the Edmonton Oil Kings (6-7-0-1) for the second time this season on Friday, October 26.

The ICE are coming off of a 4-3 overtime victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday, October 24. It was a spectacular game for the line of Peyton Krebs, Jaeger White and Brad Ginnell. Krebs recorded three points (1G, 2A), including the OT winner. Jaeger White also registered three points (2G, 1A) while Brad Ginnell collected two assists. Goaltender Duncan McGovern stopped 27-of-30 shots in the win. The ICE outshot Brandon 34-30. They went 1-for-8 on the power play, 4-for-5 on the penalty kill and won 35-of-65 face-offs. The victory snapped a six-game losing skid for the ICE.

The ICE have amassed 11 points this season, which is good for fifth in the Central Division and ninth in the Eastern Conference.

The ICE have a home record of 4-2-1-0.

The Edmonton Oil Kings are finishing up a home-and-home series – of sorts – with the Kootenay ICE, as they visit Western Financial Place on Friday, October 26, 2018. The Oil Kings last played on Sunday, October 21 against the ICE in what turned out to be a 6-3 victory for Edmonton at Rogers Place. The ICE have played since then, which doesn’t make this a typical home-and-home series. Friday’s game marks the start of a three-games in three-days stretch for the Oil Kings, who host Saskatoon and Lethbridge on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

As mentioned above, the Oil Kings are coming off of a 6-3 victory over the ICE on Sunday, October 21. Trey Fix-Wolansky and Andrei Pavlenko scored two goals each while Jacson Alexander and Jake Neighbours added the others. Goaltender Dylan Myskiw stopped 30-of-33 shots that came his way. The Oil Kings outshot the ICE 34-33. They went 3-for-8 on the power play, 5-for-6 on the penalty kill and won 35-of-65 face-offs.

The Oil Kings have collected 13 points this season, which is good for fourth in the Central Division and seventh in the Eastern Conference.

The Oil Kings have a road record of 2-5-0-1.

 

HEAD TO HEAD

This is the third meeting of the season between the ICE and the Oil Kings. Both teams have split the first two games of the six-game season series.

The next time these two Central Division rivals meet will be Friday, November 9 in Cranbrook.

The ICE are 2-6-2-0 in the last 10 games against the Oil Kings at Western Financial Place. Overall, both home and away, the ICE are 6-10-4-0 in the last 20 games against the Oil Kings.
