GAME DAY | Rematch in Brandon: ICE, Wheat Kings square off for second straight night

Brandon, MB – The Kootenay ICE (8-8-1-0) meet the Brandon Wheat Kings (9-6-0-1) at Westman Communications Group Place Saturday night, the second straight meeting for the two teams.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Central Time.

The ICE are coming off a 4-2 win over the Wheat Kings Friday. The ICE jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never looked back.

Newly acquired 2000-born ICE goaltender Duncan McGovern earned his first win in his first start with the ICE. McGovern was named second star after stopping 33-of-35 shots that came his way.

2000-born forward Kaeden Taphorn scored his first goal of the season, which turned out to be the game winner. 1999-born forward Sebastian Streu registered his first career WHL goal, the opening goal of the game.

1997-born forward Colton Kroeker registered an assist on the club’s fourth goal of the game giving him at least one point in seven straight games. Kroeker leads the ICE in goals and points with seven and 19 respectively.

2001-born forward Peyton Krebs will miss his third straight game as he is representing Team Canada at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

1998-born Wheat Kings forward Ty Lewis added to his point total Friday night recording a power play goal late in the first period. Lewis now has nine goals and 22 assists this season – his 31 points are good for fifth in the WHL.

The ICE are 6-4-0-0 in their last ten games while the Wheat Kings hold the exact same record, however, the home team has lost three consecutive games.

Friday’s victory was the first for the ICE at Westman Communications Group Place since February 27, 2015 – a 3-2 shootout win.
