KYLE CHIPCHURA – Selected 1st overall in 2001 WHL Bantam Draft

The Western Hockey League conducted the 12th Annual Bantam Draft today, May 3rd, at the Pengrowth Saddledome in the Air Canada Club.

The Prince Albert Raider selected first overall and picked centreman Kyle Chipchura from Vimy, Alberta. The Saskatoon Blades picked second and drafted centreman Joe Barnes from Winn, Manitoba. The third pick went to the Vancouver Giants and for their ever Bantam pick, the Giants selected Mark Fistric, a defenceman from Edmonton, Alberta.

The WHL Bantam Draft is a talent identification process which serves as the first opportunity for WHL teams to add players in the bantam age group, 1986 birthdates, to their respective 50 player lists. The WHL Bantam Draft is the first opportunity for WHL clubs to identify 1986 born players. Following the Draft, the WHL clubs can add 1986 born players to their 50 player list at anytime during the player’s junior eligibility. Numerous WHL players are not drafted during the Bantam Draft but develop and make WHL clubs at a later date.

The breakdown of Bantam selections were as follows; a total of 196 players were chosen. 61 players came form the province of Alberta, followed by British Columbia with 43 and Saskatchewan with 42. There were 31 players selected from Manitoba and 19 players were taken from the United States.

WHL ANNOUNCES KAL - TIRE GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH

Calgary - The Western Hockey League today announced the KAL - TIRE Goaltender of the Month for March in both the Eastern Conference and Western
Conference.

A panel of WHL media representatives selected the winners.

In the Eastern Conference, which includes the East and Central Divisions, the Goaltender of the Month is Robert McVicar of the Brandon Wheat Kings.

McVicar, a 19 year old goaltender from Brandon, Manitoba, recorded a 2.58 goals against average, a .904 save percentage, and allowed only 18 goals in
seven games. McVicar had six wins and one loss in the month of March. He is a free agent.

Robert McVicar is a deserving choice as the KAL - TIRE Goaltender of the Month for February.

In the Western Conference, the Goaltender of the Month is Tyler MacKay of the Spokane Chiefs.

MacKay recorded seven wins and no losses in seven games during the month of March. He posted a 2.15 goals against average, and a save percentage of .901. The 21 year old from Deschambault, Saskatchewan is a free agent.

Tyler MacKay is also a deserving choice as the Western Conference KAL - TIRE Goaltender of the Month for March.

Both players will receive a suitably engraved trophy honoring his achievement, as well as a gift from KAL - TIRE.

WHL ANNOUNCES TELUS MOBILITY - ROOKIE OF THE MONTH

Calgary - The Western Hockey League today announced the TELUS MOBILITY
Rookie of the Month for March in both the Eastern Conference and Western
Conference.

A panel of WHL media representatives selected the winners.

In the Eastern Conference, which includes the East and Central Divisions,
the Rookie of the Month is Joffrey Lupul of the Medicine Hat Tigers.

This 17 year old rookie from Edmonton, Alberta, recorded nine goals and 13
points in seven games in the month of March including six powerplay goals.
Lupul is eligible for the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Joffrey Lupul is a deserving choice as the Eastern Conference TELUS
MOBILITY Rookie of the Month for March.

In the Western Conference, the Rookie of the Month is Tyler Weiman of the
Tri-City Americans.

Weiman recorded two wins in nine games in the month of March. He posted a
3.96 goals against average, and a save percentage of .908 and recorded an
average of 39 saves per game. The 16 year old rookie from Lloydminster,
Alberta, is eligible for the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Tyler Weiman is also a deserving choice for the Western Conference TELUS
MOBILITY Rookie of the Month for March.

Both Players will receive a suitably engraved trophy honoring his
achievement, as well as a gift from TELUS MOBILITY.

Calgary - The Western Hockey League today announced the PUCKMASTERS
Defenceman of the Month for March in both the Eastern Conference and
Western
Conference.

The winners are selected by a panel of WHL media representatives.

In the Eastern Conference, which includes the East and Central Divisions,
the Defenceman of the Month is Ross Lupaschuk of the Red Deer Rebels.

The 20 year old from Edmonton, Alberta, recorded six goals and 15 points,
including three powerplay goals in the month of March. Lupaschuk was
selected by the Washington Capitals in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Ross Lupaschuk is a deserving choice as the Eastern Conference PUCKMASTERS
Defenceman of the Month for March.

In the Western Conference, the Defenceman of the Month is Christian
Chartier of the Prince George Cougars. Chartier was also Defenceman of the
Month for November, December and February.

In 11 games in March, the 20 year old from St. Lazere, Manitoba, recorded
nine assists. Chartier is a draft choice of the Edmonton Oilers.

Christian Chartier is also a deserving choice as the Western Conference
PUCKMASTERS Defenceman of the Month for March.

Both players will receive a suitably engraved trophy honoring his
achievement, as well as a gift from PUCKMASTERS.

WHL ANNOUNCES DELPHI SOLUTIONS / PANASONIC PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Calgary - The Western Hockey League today announced the DELPHI SOLUTIONS / PANASONIC Player of the Month for March in both the Eastern Conference and Western Conference.

Winners were selected by a panel of WHL media representatives.

In the Eastern Conference, which includes the East and Central Divisions, the Player of the Month is Jarret Stoll of the Kootenay Ice.

The 18 year old forward from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, scored nine goals and had 19 points in nine games in March, including six powerplay goals and one game winning goal. Stoll was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Jarret Stoll is a deserving choice as the Eastern Conference DELPHI SOLUTIONS / PANASONIC Player of the Month for March.

In the Western Conference, the Player of the Month is Marcel Hossa of the Portland Winter Hawks.

The 19 year old from Stara Lubovna, Slovakia scored eight goals and 19 points in 13 games in March including four powerplay goals and three game
winning goals. Hossa was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

His accomplishments make Marcel Hossa a deserving choice as the Western Conference DELPHI SOLUTIONS / PANASONIC Player of the Month for March.

Both players will receive a suitably engraved trophy honoring his achievement and a gift from DELPHI SOLUTIONS / PANASONIC.
