Ryan McGill

HEAD COACH

Ryan McGill has been with the ICE organization since day one. An Assistant Coach for the first season and a half, McGill was named bench boss in October 1997.

Since taking over the head coaching reins of a young and struggling team two and a half seasons ago, he has piloted the ICE to a 91-92-23-3 career record, including the best regular season the the four year history of the club, two play-off appearances and one WHL Championship.

Ryan played four years in the Western Hockey League (1985 - 1989) as a Defenseman with three different teams (Lethbridge Broncos, Swift Current Broncos, and Medicine Hat Tigers).

He was also a member of the 1987-88 Memorial Cup Champion Medicine Hat Tigers. Ryan was a second round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft (29th overall) and played three years in their system winning a Turner Cup Championship in 1989-90. He was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in 1992 where he spent three seasons before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers in 1995. Due to an unfortunate eye injury his NHL career ended prematurely in March 1995.

Ryan, a native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, and his wife Karen and daughter Kate, reside in the City during the season.
