Off-season Eight: with Peyton Krebs

Cranbrook, B.C. – What has the 2018 off-season been like for ICE 2001-born forward Peyton Krebs? What activities does he enjoy? And what is he most looking forward to when the 2018-19 season gets underway?

Krebs has answered all of those questions and more in our feature called Off-season Eight.

(1) What are you most looking forward to when it comes to the 2018-19 season?

Answer: I am extremely excited for the 2018-19 season and I can’t wait for it to start. Really looking forward to seeing all the guys again along with some new faces fresh from the draft. This will be a huge season for the team and the town of Cranbrook. Can’t wait to get the adrenalin pumping and have an amazing time playing the game I love.

(2) What are your goals for the 2018-19 season?

Answer: I have set many personal and team goals to challenge myself throughout the upcoming season. Our number one goal is to make playoffs and make a push for the big title at the end of the season. I personally just want to get better every day and become a better leader on and off the ice for the younger guys.

(3) What aspect of your hockey game have you been working on in the off-season?

Answer: For me, I have been working on getting stronger and faster. With lots of big guys in the WHL, any little advantage you can get in the corner to protect the puck with your strength can make a huge difference. I have also been working lots of my shot on the ice.

(4) What is your favourite thing to do in the off-season?

Answer: Personally, my favourite thing to do is workout. Some days I might spend three hours in the gym. It’s just the atmosphere in the gym that inspires me to be better every day and work even harder. When I’m not in the gym I like to go wake surfing at my cousin’s place or go mountain biking in Canmore.

(5) What is the biggest thing you learned during last season that will help you moving forward as a player?

Answer: For me, I learned so much each and every day last season. The biggest thing for me was the little details on and off the ice. On the ice, always working your hardest every practice to stay consistent with your game, also off the ice doing workouts, cool downs, warm ups to prepare yourself and your body for every game.

(6) What is your favourite moment from last season?

Answer: I think our home opener last year was pretty amazing. It was a really fun game beating the Hitmen and the fans were right into it. Hopefully, we can create that atmosphere every game this upcoming season.

(7) What did you think of the Stanley Cup playoffs?

Answer: The Stanley Cup playoffs were amazing to watch. The speed of the game and skill on the ice was unbelievable. I’ve been fortunate to be able to skate with Jay Beagle on the Washington Capitals. He is the hardest working guy in every practice that I’ve skated with him and it showed during the playoffs. Playoffs are amazing and it gave me chills every time I watched.

(8) What did you think of the 2018 Mastercard Memorial Cup?

Answer: The Mastercard Memorial Cup is a great tournament. Watching that hockey definitely is motivating because you know you can play at that level and compete with those teams. Hopefully, we as a group can keep working, and instead of watching, be playing in the tournament, working our hearts out to win.
