Patrick hires alumni Nathan Lieuwen as team’s new video coach

Cranbrook, B.C. – The Kootenay ICE Hockey Club is pleased to announce the hiring of alumni Nathan Lieuwen as its new video coach.

“I had a chance to coach Nathan in Buffalo with the Sabres organization, you could see his attention to detail and passion for the game as a player,” said Head Coach James Patrick. “We are very excited to add someone with his professional background to our coaching staff and we think he will bring a lot to the role of video coach.”

Lieuwen joins the ICE after spending the past five years playing professional hockey, which included a stint with the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres. Lieuwen also spent time with the ECHL’s Greenville Road Warriors and Colorado Eagles, and the AHL’s Rochester Americans.

“It feels great to join the Kootenay ICE organization once again after spending some time away playing pro hockey,” explained Lieuwen. “I’m extremely excited to help the team get better and move forward in this new ICE age.”

Lieuwen played parts of five seasons with the ICE during his WHL career. He appeared in 178 regular season games, registering a 2.77 GAA, a .903 SV% and a record of 85-59-8-7. Lieuwen also played in 26 playoff games including 19 in 2011 when the ICE captured the WHL Championship. Lieuwen was named playoff MVP that year.

Season seats for the 2017-18 ICE season can be purchased by calling 250-417-0322, stopping by the Kootenay ICE office at Western Financial Place or ordering online at ICEcountry.ca.
