ICE announce eight year-end award winners prior to Friday’s game
ICE ’00-born forward Brad Ginnell accepts the Community Leader of the Year Award presented by East Kootenay Community Credit Union prior to the game on Friday, March 15.
Cranbrook, B.C. – The Kootenay ICE Hockey Club announced its remaining eight regular season year-end award winners prior to its game against the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday, March 15.
Below is a list of the award winners:
ROD HUNTER LTD. PLAYERS AWARD – PEYTON KREBS
This award – voted on by the players – goes to the individual that was deemed to be the team’s best player this season. After tallying the votes, it has been determined that ’01-born forward Peyton Krebs is the player’s choice for top player on the team.
Krebs has been one of the most consistent players on the team this season. The Okotoks, Alberta native netted 19 goals and added 48 assists for 67 points in 62 games. ‘Krebsie’ set a career high for goals, assists and points this season.
APOLLO RISTORANTE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER – PEYTON KREBS
An MVP award goes to the player deemed to be the most valuable on his team throughout the course of a season. The award has been given to ’01-born forward Peyton Krebs.
In 62 games, Krebs registered 19 goals and 48 assists for 67 points. As of Friday, Krebs is first on the ICE in assists and points and second on the team in goals.
TOP DEFENCEMAN – MARTIN BODAK
This award goes to the team’s best and most consistent defenceman throughout the course of a season.
For the second consecutive season, Martin Bodak has been named the team’s top defenceman. ‘Bods’ – a second round selection in the 2017 CHL Import Draft – played in 58 games this season. The Spisska Nova Ves, Slovakia native was a steady force on the blue line logging significant minutes while registering 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR – CONNOR MCCLENNON
This award goes to the best and most consistent first-year player on the team.
In 44 games this season, ICE ’02-born forward Connor McClennon scored 13 goals and added 15 assists for 28 points. The ICE selected the Wainwright, Alberta native second overall in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
McClennon also represented Team Canada White at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in November.
SKYWAY DISTRIBUTIONS LTD. MOST IMPROVED PLAYER – COLE MUIR
This award goes to the player who demonstrated the greatest amount of improvement in his game from the year before.
2001-born forward Cole Muir received this year’s award. In 66 games, Muir set single season career highs in goals (11), assists (15), points (26) and games played.
BDO CANADA LLP MOST UNDERRATED PLAYER – JAEGER WHITE
This award goes to the player who’s not normally recognized for his work ethic and skill level but consistently proves to be a vital part of the team’s success.
1998-born forward Jaeger White has been a constant on the top line for the ICE this season. The Medicine Hat, Alberta product recorded 27 goals and 23 assists for 50 points in 65 games. White set career highs in goals, assists and points.
White was a contributor on the top power play unit collecting four goals and 14 assists. White also added four game winning goals.
EKCC COMMUNITY LEADER OF THE YEAR – BRAD GINNELL
This award goes to the player who best dedicated his time and effort to the community through various community programs put on by the organization and otherwise.
Brad Ginnell was always one of the first players to raise their hand when the ICE were taking part in community initiatives this season. The Calgary, Alberta native took part in Reading with the ICE school visits, minor hockey practices, Skating with the ICE events, CIBC player visits and other community programs.
As of Friday, the ’00-born forward has played in 66 games this season, registering 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points.
ICE FAN CLUB PLAYER OF THE YEAR – PEYTON KREBS
At each ICE home game during the 2018-19 season, the ICE Fan Club offered to fans an opportunity to vote for their favourite player. The votes were tallied and the fan’s favourite player goes to ’01-born forward Peyton Krebs for the second consecutive season.
As of Friday, Krebs has played in 62 games, recording 19 goals and adding 48 assists for 67 points.
DUNLOP TRUCK CENTRES CRANBROOK – ZAC PATRICK
Zac showed tremendous dedication towards his academics during the 2018-19 hockey season. Patrick averaged 90% in Precalculus Math 12 and Biology 12, finding an effective way to balance school and hockey.
On the ice, the 2001-born defenceman has suited up in 52 games, registering two goals and seven points.
