ICE, Hitmen ready for rematch at Saddledome

Cranbrook, B.C. – The Kootenay ICE look for a home-and-home series sweep of the Calgary Hitmen to begin the 2017-18 regular season when they visit the Scotiabank Saddledome Saturday night.

Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7 p.m. although it could be delayed slightly due to opening ceremonies.

The ICE are coming off a 3-2 victory the previous night at Western Financial Place in front of just under 3400 fans. Michael King and Gilian Kohler provided the offence for the ICE while goaltender Bailey Brkin made 35 saves to collect his first WHL win. Kohler’s goal – the first of his WHL career – turned out to be the game winning goal.

The ICE haven’t started a season 2-0 since the 2005-06 season when they defeated Tri-City 7-1 and Spokane 4-2.

The ICE went a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill but 0-for-6 on the power play.

The Hitmen outshot the ICE 37-31 and out chanced the ICE 17-15.
