ICE sign 2017 second round draft pick Anson McMaster

Cranbrook, B.C. – The Kootenay ICE are pleased to announce prospect Anson McMaster has signed a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.

The ICE selected McMaster, 14, in the second round, 23rd overall, in the 2017 WHL Draft.

The 6’4”, 175 pound Siksika Nation, Alberta product played the 2016-17 season with the Rocky Mountain Raiders in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League. In 36 games, the defenceman recorded 15 goals, 24 assists for 39 points. McMaster also played in one game for the Rockyview Raiders of the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.

“Anson is a big, tall defenceman with incredible potential,” said President and GM Matt Cockell. “We’re very excited to support Anson’s development both as a player and a person.”

With Friday’s announcement, the ICE have now signed their top two picks from the 2017 WHL Draft. In the middle of May, Connor McClennon – selected second overall – signed a standard player agreement.
