ICE sign 2018 import draft pick Valtteri Kakkonen

Cranbrook, B.C. – The Kootenay ICE Hockey Club is pleased to announce it has signed 2000-born defenceman Valtteri Kakkonen.

The ICE selected Kakkonen in the first round (11th overall) of the 2018 CHL Import Draft.

“We look forward to welcoming Valtteri to our community,” said Matt Cockell, President and General Manager. “He plays the game fast, is very competitive and will be a good addition to our blueline.”

The Finland native suited up for JYP U20 of Jr. A SM-liiga during the 2017-18 season. The six-foot, 168-pound defender scored five goals and added seven assists for 12 points in 47 regular season games.

During the 2016-17 campaign, Kakkonen played for the Finland U17 team.

Kakkonen was the only player selected by the ICE in the 2018 CHL Import Draft.
